Living at Bryn Mawr
Housing
RLI Russian 001/002 students are strongly encouraged to reside in campus dorms during the summer. All participants are assigned a single room and have access to a student activities coordinator/resident dorm advisor. Rooms include a bed, desk, chair, dresser, window shade, and an air conditioner. Each student should bring their own linens, blankets, pillows, and towels. Laundry machines are located in the dormitories and are free to use. (Students who choose to reside off campus are responsible for arranging their own housing.)
Meals
All meals take place in one of the dining halls, where the College's award-winning dining service provides participants with breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Monday - Friday) and brunch and dinner (Saturday - Sunday). Students are encouraged to speak Russian during all meals. On weekdays, faculty join students at lunch to promote the fullest possible interaction in Russian. Students choosing to live off-campus are expected to eat lunch in the dining hall with their fellow participants Monday through Friday. A special lunches-only meal plan will be available for these commuting students.
Additional Resources
RLI students will have full access to all campus facilities during their normal hours of operation.
Canaday Library
Canaday is the main library on the Bryn Mawr campus. It subscribes to Russian periodicals that students may use for research or informal reading. Canaday has a major collection of Russian and Soviet titles in its book stacks. Other materials may be obtained via interlibrary loan from the libraries of several nearby colleges and universities. Students may also use the library for recreational viewing of a broad selection of Russian-related videos in one of its public computer labs.
Bern Schwartz Gymnasium
The Bern Schwartz Gymnasium has a wide range of facilities including a fitness room, indoor pool, basketball court, dance/gymnastics floor and outdoor tennis. Check out the gym and other athletic facilities on campus.
Campus Center
The Campus Center has a bookshop, café, post office, lounges, and meeting rooms. A large-screen television and pool table in the main lounge is also available to students. It is also the location of Residential Life & Student Engagement. Outgoing mail can be sent through the post office at the Campus Center. Incoming mail may be addressed to the Bryn Mawr Russian Department c/o Student's Name.
