Safety and Security

The Commencement proceedings will draw friends and family from around the world eager to celebrate the milestone of achieving a Bryn Mawr degree. Bryn Mawr College is committed to free speech and freedom of expression. At the same time, the College is committed to ensuring safety and supporting a successful and celebratory event worthy of the achievements of our extraordinary graduates. As an official College event, significant disruptions are not permitted inside the Commencement ceremony tent. Graduates and guests attending Commencement may be asked to leave or be removed from the venue if they create significant disruptions or otherwise impede others’ participation in this event.

Only graduates in regalia and guests with tickets will be permitted inside the Commencement ceremony tent unless you are a volunteer or staff member with a lanyard ID or are part of the academic procession.

Tent entrance will be expedited if graduates’ and guests’ personal belongings are contained within a clear plastic bag. Additionally, the following items are not permitted inside the tent:

• Balloons, beach balls, or projectiles
• Cigarettes, vapes, alcohol, illegal drugs/substances
• Artificial noisemakers (e.g., drums, airhorns, bullhorns, thundersticks, whistles)
• Fireworks or flammables
• Laser pointers/flashlights
• Visual obstructions, including signs or banners larger than 11" x 14"
• Pets (service animals exempt)
• Drones
• Weapons or items that mimic weapons
• Any liquid refreshments except for plastic water bottles

The College reserves the right to search persons and property for the purpose of ensuring event safety.
