Housing
Bryn Mawr offers mortgage assistance to eligible faculty under the BMC Mortgage Plan. Guides to local neighborhoods (Main Line, Philadelphia) provide useful information. Transportation
Bryn Mawr College is located just outside the City of Philadelphia, in Lower Merion Township which is in Montgomery County. The nearest railway station is a 5-minute walk from the main campus and links Bryn Mawr to robust transportation options through Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), AMTRAK and the Philadelphia International Airport. This document describes Bryn Mawr's local SEPTA options. TransitChek tax savings is available for employees who come to work on public transportation.
International Faculty Members
The Impact Center is responsible for the general welfare of international visitors, researchers and faculty at Bryn Mawr College. The Impact Center facilitates the application process for international faculty members sponsored on certain types of employment-based visas, assists with questions regarding government regulations, social and academic adjustment, personal matters and other concerns. The International Faculty Group (IFG) is an association of self-identified, permanent or temporary international faculty members and instructional and administrative staff, who have come to the Tri-Co (Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges) from all over the world.
Resources for Families
Bryn Mawr is a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) which provides resources for dual-career academics.
The College offers a program to faculty and staff that provides in-home backup childcare and adult care at a subsidized hourly rate through Care.com.
The Phebe Anna Thorne School is a Preschool and Kindergarten that is located within the campus of Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. It was established in 1952 as a laboratory nursery school at Bryn Mawr College. The Thorne School offers a developmentally oriented, child-centered program in which children develop a sense of competence and well-being within the group through play, problem-solving and social interaction.
