Internships, Fellowships, Calls for Submissions

Undergraduate students who are interested in submitting their writing for publication or for presenting at a conference can find information here on Calls for Submissions that have been sent to the Department of Literatures in English. Questions regarding calls for submissions should be addressed to the publication or to Dan Parker (dparker1@brynmawr.edu).

Department of Literatures in English Fellowship

The Department of Literatures in English is delighted to announce a $2,000 fellowship available to sophomore and junior Literatures in English majors. The fellowship may be used to fund research toward development of a senior essay topic, development of a project growing out of literary study, or any other extension of study in the major, such as travel to an archive or event of interest. The fellowship should be used during the summer after the sophomore or junior year. While only one fellowship will be given per year, the Department will consider awarding the grant to two or three students who wish to pursue a joint topic. The successful applicant or applicants will give a presentation to the Department about their research in the Fall after the research is completed. Applications should include a 500-word proposal describing the topic, an itemized plan for use of the funds, and an up-to-date Bryn Mawr College transcript. Application materials should be emailed to Dan Parker (dparker1@brynmawr.edu) by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16th, 2026.

The Fellowship will not be available to MMUF scholars or students who have also received the Hannah Holborn Gray Fellowship for the same year.

The Department offers this fellowship in honor of Professor Emeritus Joseph Kramer. A scholar of drama, he was a specialist in Shakespeare and Ben Jonson. He joined the faculty of Bryn Mawr College as an Associate Professor in 1969 and retired in 2006. In the 1970s, Joe developed and taught, at Bryn Mawr, the first LGBTQ literatures course offered in the United States.

If you have questions about the fellowship, please contact Prof. Bethany Schneider (bschneid@brynmawr.edu).
