IGPM showcases, promotes, and encourages in-progress research by faculty and graduate (and advanced undergraduate) students on any aspect of the pre-modern world. A scholar leads each 90-minute meeting. One week prior, the conveners circulate (a portion of) the scholar’s ongoing project to registered attendees. Attendees read the project prior to the meeting, and at the meeting, the leader briefly summarizes their work, including the genesis and trajectory of their project and any issues—already overcome or still looming—that have arisen in the course of their work on it. The remainder of the time is dedicated to group discussion about the project: we troubleshoot, make suggestions, and cheer each other on.
