The faculty talks are modeled after the popular TED talks. In this session, you have an opportunity to hear from two of our faculty, presenting for 15-20 minutes each, with ample time for questions and answers.
Fakes and Failures: The Art of Disguise in Colonial North Africa
Edwige Crucifix, Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies
During the French colonization of North Africa, it became a common and fashionable practice for women to cross-dress as men and/or as “Orientals”. Professor Crucifix will explain how her current courses and book project explore the meaning of disguises in various colonial and postcolonial contexts and question the notion of identity.

Professor Suaudeau, Director of Film Studies and host/producer of Song of Philadelphia and The People Left Behind, talks about his creative process.
