Katherine Crawford Luber, Ph.D. '92, History of Art, Elected Director and President of the Minneapolis Institute of Art
Dr. Katherine Crawford Luber, Ph.D. '92, History of Art, has been elected to be the next Nivin and Duncan MacMillan Director and President of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Her appointment will begin in January, 2020. Dr. Luber joins the Minneapolis Institute of Art after an eight-year tenure as head of the San Antonio Museum of Art.
From the museum's official press release: "With Dr. Luber, we have selected an exceptional leader to be the twelfth director of the Minneapolis Institute of Art,” said David Wilson, chair of Mia’s Board of Trustees. “Mia is entering a period of transformation as we embark on an ambitious campus rejuvenation and double down on our inclusion, equity, and diversity initiatives to ensure our outstanding art collections and ambitious exhibitions and education programs serve every community. Katie possesses the curatorial and management experience we sought in a leader. She has an authentic, passionate vision for how art can engage, educate, and delight us all.”
Dr. Luber completed her dissertation, Reconsidering Durer: Synthesis of Northern and Italian Renaissance Painting Techniques, in Bryn Mawr's History of Art Department, under the direction of Katharine E. McBride Professor Christiane Hertel.
