History of Art’s Katherine Rochester presents 'Fellow Travelers' exhibition at apexart in NYC
From intergalactic travel to the mass movement of Syrian refugees, Katherine Rochester PhD Candidate in History of Art brings to us a stellar ensemble of artists and dissidents who document their personal journeys to freedom in her upcoming Fellow Travelers exhibition this fall. The exhibition explores the works of artists displaced by the effects of rapid globalization, climate change, and the collapse of neo-liberal policies - featuring the multimedia works of Halil Altindere, Lou Cantor, Amen Feizabadi, Azin Feizabadi, Soda_Jerk, Ionel Talpazan, and the legendary Sun Ra. Each artist re-imagines the pop culture imagery of the 20th century race for space, one ideological outcome of neo-liberalism, into a metaphor for recent mass migrations and resistance. Fellow Travelers is the first in series of three exhibitions selected among 515 proposals to apexart’s Unsolicited Exhibition Program. This exhibition will be followed by the upcoming Rendered Cities (January 2018) and Light in Wartime (June 2018). An opening reception will be held at apexart on Wednesday, September 6 from 6-8pm.
The exhibition runs from September 7 to October 21.
apexart is located at: 291 Church Street, New York, New York, 10013.
