Bryn Mawr Art Historians attend the 2019 College Art Association Annual Meeting

Bryn Mawr College’s History of Art Department was well-represented this year at the 107^th College Art Association Annual Conference in New York City. The annual conference was held from February 13-16, 2019.

Assistant Professor Sylvia Houghteling co-chaired a session with her colleague Vera-Simone Schulz of the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz at the Max-Planck-Institut. The February 15^th session was titled “Textile Ecologies: Environmental Aesthetics and Transmaterial Dynamics of Cloth.” Professor David Cast chaired the panel “Antiquarianism in Art. Ideology of Representation during the Renaissance: The Grotesques.”

Special Collections Curator Carrie Robbins and Ph.D. Candidate Laurel Vera Mclaughlin gave the paper “Learning from Tania El Khoury’s ear-whispered at Bryn Mawr College in the session “‘When Home Won’t Let You Stay’: Art and Migration in the 21^st Century.” Their paper was a reflection on the recent Tania El Khoury exhibition ear whispered at Bryn Mawr College.

Also in attendance were History of Art graduate students Meg Hankel, Emily Leifer, Elliot Martin, and Michelle Smiley.

A reception for Bryn Mawr College History of Art alumnae/i, faculty, and students was held on February 14^th at the New York Hilton Midtown.

The 108^th CAA will be held from Febraury 12-15, 2020at the Hilton Chicago.
