Alum News: Johanna Gosse contributes an essay to new Bruce Connor exhibition catalogue
The Musuem of Modern Art, in conjunction with SF MoMA, has mounted a new exhibition on the multimedia artist and avant-garde filmmaker Bruce Conner. Bruce Conner: It's All True is the first complete retrospective of the 50-year career of the artist, who died in 2008. In the exhibition catalogue, Johanna Gosse (Ph.D. 2014) contributes the essay "Easter Morning: Bruce Conner's Second Coming," which discusses the last film the artist made, in the final months of his life. That film, Easter Morning, will be on view throughout the exhibition run (July 3 - October 2, 2016).
Johanna's previous publications on the artist include “Pop, Collaboration, Utopia: Bruce Conner’s BREAKAWAY in 1960s Los Angeles” (Camera Obscura 89, Vol. 30, No. 2) and her dissertation, Cinema at the Crossroads: Bruce Conner's Atomic Sublime, 1958-2008, which was directed by Professor Homay King.
Johanna is currently the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University.
