Itinerary
After your arrival at the Basel/ Mulhouse Airport, you are transferred to your hotel in the scenic town of Obernai situated in the verdant foot-hills of the Vosges Mountains.
Today is a day to get to know your new hometown in some depth. Visit the Spindler Art Marquetry gallery to view the work of a local artisan with an international following. Tour the seventh century Hohenburg Abbey, founded by St. Odile. Get special access to the abbey library with its richly illustrated Hortus Deliciarum manuscript. Afterwards, get up close to the mysterious nearby Pagan Wall from pre-Christian times.
After lunch in a typical winstub restaurant, visit two highly regarded women-owned wineries nearby
Tour the Gothic cathedral in this magnificent city and afterwards, visit the Notre-Dame museum to see its collection of medieval art and architectural plans for the church. Enjoy a savory Alsatian specialty during a city tour. Take a tour on the city’s unique canals.
Enjoy the views from the dramatic Black Forest High Road. Tour the German Clock Museum. See historic farmhouses and experience rural life at the Black Forest Open Air Museum. Lunch is in a typical Black Forest restaurant. Visit the vibrant university town of Freiburg and its Gothic cathedral.
Visit the Col du Linge, a World War I museum at a battlefield with original trenches. Tour a botanical garden featuring native mountain flowers and plants. Lunch today is at a typical mountain inn.
Take a walking tour of Colmar, including a visit to the Isenheim Altarpiece and a tour of the Modern Art collection at the Unterlinden Museum. Visit two quaint wine villages: Eguisheim and Riquewihr. End the day with a cooking demonstration and farewell dinner at the mountaintop home of a renowned female chef.
