This training will review core tenets of play therapy and the therapeutic powers of play. Attendees will learn to conceptualize and implement play– and expressive–based therapeutic techniques in Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF–CBT). A special focus will be on carefully selecting digital tools via the virtual therapy platform.

Delivery: Synchronous Virtual Classroom via Zoom
This training will review core tenets of play therapy and the therapeutic powers of play. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to 1) Identify the core agents of change/therapeutic powers of play in play-based therapy practice; 2) Discuss ways to incorporate technology and virtual therapy into TF-CBT; and 3) Implement expressive-based interventions for each of the practice components.
This program is appropriate for all levels of social work professionals who work with children and adolescents.
Presenter: Dr. Rachel Altvater, Psy.D., R.P.T.-S. is an award-winning, nationally recognized, pioneering expert, leader, researcher, international trainer, author, and supervisor in the field of play therapy. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia, and she holds national certifications as a Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She is the owner of Creative Psychological Health Services and the president of the Maryland/DC Association for Play Therapy. Dr. Altvater published her research in the International Journal of Play Therapy on technology use in play therapy and is a contributing author in numerous scholarly texts on implementing digital tools in play therapy practice.
