Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful form of therapy for individuals who have trouble regulating emotions and behaviors. DBT replaces problematic emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns with adaptive ways of coping to create a "life worth living.” DBT is a dominant modality in the current wave of behavioral therapies and continues to evolve.
The seminar will explore: 1) the history of DBT, 2) the theoretical underpinnings of DBT, 3) the core DBT modules (e.g., mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness), 4) the effective implementation of DBT, 5) critiques and limitations of DBT, 6) cultural competence with DBT, and 7) the future of DBT.
This seminar's learning objectives are for participants to: 1) gain an increased understanding of the history of DBT and its theoretical underpinnings, 2) learn the core modules of DBT and how they are executed, 3) identify the challenges and limitations of DBT, and 4) explore the future of DBT.
This seminar is for all levels of clinicians who want to implement DBT into their practice or who are looking to increase their knowledge of the modality.
