What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!
We've been making video tutorials for students and faculty about how to use Bionic and Moodle. We have also been preparing to conduct user testing with students, staff, and faculty for the new Moodle 4.0 update.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied for this internship because I was interested in doing something that I did not have a lot of experience in. I wanted to expose myself to different fields so I could grow as a person and worker. Also, I wanted to help the College sites become more accessible to students as I remember having a difficult time navigating through some aspects of it.
What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of this internship has been collaborating with my co-workers and improving my communication skills. I did not think I would be able to warm up to my co-workers so easily, but now we know each other so well.
What is something you have learned from your internship that you didn't expect?
I was very surprised to learn that this internship did not involve some kind of coding. I remember reading the description of the job that it seemed very tech-like, so I automatically thought I would be doing some type of coding for the new Moodle update. In addition, I learned how much effort and time it takes for making tutorial videos. It was very difficult to narrate a whole video in one try without stumbling on words or messing up the order of words.
Can you talk about the skills you are learning and why they are important to you?
One of the skills I am learning is how to conduct user testing. This is important to me because I think it will help me in the future if I ever pursue the tech field, but I also feel like the process of conducting user testing can be applied to all areas.
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced at your internship?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced is communicating with the people we are working with because sometimes there are misunderstandings with what is said, or the information we need for a task is not received. I found this frustrating at times because it would take a while for the right information to reach us when we had a lot of work to do.
Can you give us three adjectives and three nouns that describe your internship experience?
Interesting, rewarding, focused
Computers, Moodle, collaboration
What is most rewarding about your internship?
The most rewarding part of my internship is gaining the experience I need to pursue further into my career by gaining work experience from different areas of the tech field. Another rewarding part of my internship is being able to help the College make websites easier to use for students because I know that it is a challenge to get used to the websites the College uses in such a short time to complete assignments for class.
