Physics Students Present at American Physical Society Meeting in Minneapolis
Physics majors Eva Carmona-Rogina '25 and Thea Liao '25 presented at the American Physical Society's March 2024 meeting in Minneapolis.
The event brought together 13,000 physicists and students from around the world to connect and collaborate across academia, industry, and major labs.
Carmona-Rogina presented research on "Micromagnetic Simulations of Antiferromagnetically Coupled Bubble Skyrmions."
Liao's presentation was on "Fabrication and Characterization of Gold Microdisks for Cancer Treatment."
Both projects were done with Professor of Physics Xuemei May Cheng. Associate Professor of Biology Adam Williamson was among the co-authors of Liao's research.
Carmona-Rogina and Liao also secured top spots in the poster competition at the American Physical Society Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics held at the University of Pennsylvania in January 2024.
Each student's research began when they took part in Bryn Mawr's Summer Science Research program, and both projects were funded by the National Science Foundation. The students received funding to attend the conference from both the APS and Bryn Mawr's Undergraduate Awards for Conference Travel.
