Social Work Professor James Martin Gives Series of Guest Lectures at Univ. of Alabama
Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research Professor James Martin recently completed a series of invited lectures at the University of Alabama.
During the week of August 19, Martin addressed the topic of military and veteran cultural competency; lecturing to medical and nursing students; graduate students in social work and related disciplines; as well as community medical and human services providers in the Tuscaloosa area. Martin was the guest of a University of Alabama program called Vital: Improving Wellness in Alabama. The program is a partnership between the State of Alabama and the university, with sponsorship by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Martin's talks addressed awareness and advocacy for military members, veterans, and military/veteran connected family members, as well as best practices in delivering culturally sensitive care to this population. Alabama is a state with a significant military population, as well as a higher than average veteran population.
