People you want to thank: I want to thank my mom and dad for always supporting me as I embarked on the mission to get a college education, something that neither of them had done. I want to thank my siblings, Henry, Johnny, and Jacob, for grounding me throughout my time here and making me laugh. I want to thank my friends - the ones back home and the new ones I've made along the way, and I want to thank my partner, who has cheered me on as I looked towards the future and who has given me a shoulder to lean on. These people are my family, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.
Message for the rest of the Class of 2021: At some point, everyone reaches that spot where they want to turn back or give up. For better or worse, there are difficulties in our paths that we cannot triumph over. But when you think that you need to be strong and take your problems head on, remember to also be soft and have empathy for the people around you (whether they are near or far). These people are ultimately your allies in whatever direction you are trying to go.
Post-graduation plans: Next year, I will be completing the Russian Overseas Flagship year and continuing my studies of Russian in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the help of the Boren Scholarship. Ultimately, I want to continue studying languages and continue writing, in whatever form that may take.
