Camillah Canty '23, a senior Literatures in English major with minors in psychology and Africana studies, has been selected as one of the 50 members of the Girls Leading Our World (GLOW) Global Cohort.

The initiative is an immersive 10-week virtual experience sponsored by Cantu Beauty and Women Empowering Nations. The cohort runs from April 15 to June 17, touching on topics such as culture and identity, public speaking, personal and professional branding, executive leadership, and mental health and wellness. At the conclusion of the cohort, members will have planned and organized a Global Day of Service where all of the GLOW cohort members complete service initiatives on the same day in partnership with each other around the world. The cohort is made up of 50 women ages 17-23 from Germany, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.

"I am hoping to further develop my personal and professional brand through connecting with women who are committed to leadership," says Canty. "Although I can be reserved at times, I am eager to push myself beyond my comfort zone. This is a unique opportunity for growth and I am committed to making the most of it."

As a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow, Canty is exploring the portrayal of Black motherhood in contemporary speculative fiction through her research. While at Bryn Mawr, she received a  Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in Italy for the Spring 2022 semester.

"My experience at Bryn Mawr has instilled in me a sense of comfort in challenging myself," says Canty. "Witnessing my peers move beyond their roles as students to become activists in their communities has been a great source of inspiration for me. Above all, the supportive campus community at Bryn Mawr has taught me the importance of unapologetically taking up space and advocating for my beliefs."
