Job Title: Digital Technology Summer Intern

What’s happening at your internship?
The digital technology intern is a project-based job—we meet with clients, build database and webpage based on their needs, and get feedback from them. For most of the time, we have multiple projects in progress. The job also includes various interesting workshops—excel, html, digital competency workshop. We also do a lot of self-studies online.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied for this job during the spring semester of my sophomore year. I have always wondered about a career in a library as well as a job as a web developer, so I am excited to meet staff and learn more digital competencies and skills about data processing and web developing. I am also interested in learning to work with data.
What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of the internship is the collaboration of interns. In our group, we come from different backgrounds—we have different majors, skills, habits and interests. We did not discuss our specific roles in the group, but we collaborated well. In addition, it is fun to use platforms like LinkedIn Learning for some self-studies!
What skills are you learning and why are they important to you?
Project management skills and self-learning are two most significant skills that I am learning. In work, project management skill is one of the most basic skills, but we don’t learn it from books—we learn it from practice. Your group is given a task, and the skill to work out a plan and make the plan work is something I practiced a lot. Working also involves lots and lots of self-studies. The most difficult part is to target the tutorial you need for solving a specific problem. Problem-solving is always the fun part!
