Faculty and Staff

Bryn Mawr offers multiple opportunities for learning and professional development. The College has joined the new Liberal Arts Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance (LACRELA), based at USC’s Race and Equity Center.  Beginning in January 2021, LACRELA will offer monthly professional development workshops.  All staff and faculty will have access to the Consortium’s extensive online learning resources.  Contact Ruth Lindeborg (rlindebo@brynmawr.edu) for more information.

All faculty and staff have access to the Racial Equity Habit Building Challenges made possible by Bryn Mawr’s membership in CUPA-HR (College and University Professional Association for Human Resources).

Bryn Mawr is a partner of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity.  All faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and staff have access to the Center’s resources, which include a Faculty Success program, mentoring, webinars, and the writing challenge program.

The Provost’s Office offers a variety of workshops and programs each year to support inclusive teaching and classrooms, including syllabus design and pedagogy workshops for new faculty in concert with the Teaching and Learning Institute.

The Pensby Center offers a variety of programs open to faculty and staff, including “Beyond the Book,” its monthly book discussion, guided meditation, and other events.

Pensby also provides services for international faculty, visitors, and guests.  In addition, international faculty may participate in the Bryn Mawr-Haverford-Swarthmore Colleges International Faculty Group.

Cheryl Horsey serves as Bryn Mawr’s Equal Employment Opportunity Officer (eeo@brynmawr.edu), and is available to speak with faculty or staff with EEO concerns.

Five faculty and staff members serve as Workplace Advisors to assist colleagues in addressing conflicts or concerns in the workplace. For All Community Members

Ann-Therese Ortíz serves as point person for the Bias Response Team.  Any community member may report bias incidents to the Bias Response Team.  The team seeks to facilitate access to supports and services promptly, to investigate the reported incident, and to discuss possible courses of action with the individual or group reporting bias.  The Bias Response Team is currently reviewing its practices and procedures, and seeks to consult community members in its efforts to create a responsive process that recognizes the importance of both transparency and confidentiality.

CARLA (Campaign for Anti-Racist Literacy at Bryn Mawr College) is a grassroots group of faculty, staff, and students that is working to advance an anti-racist framework of action across the College, and welcomes interested community members to join in their work.  Interested community members can contact Chanelle Wilson (cwilson3@brynmawr.edu) or Alice Lesnick (alesnick@brynmawr.edu) for more information.

In Fall 2020, the Bryn Mawr Strike Collective created resources for learning about racism, including recorded teach-in sessions led by students, faculty, staff, and others.  The College provided support for additional teach-in sessions offered in Spring 2021, which are also accessible online.
